Twitter, the EULIS Meeting and the EAU

Thu, 29 Sep 2011

The 1st EAU Section of Urolithiasis meeting marks a shift in reporting from urology-related meetings. In addition to this specialised newsletter and the regular contributions from EULIS to European Urology Today, a live report was made from the meeting floor itself through the EAU’s Twitter feed.

Twitter, a social media website, has allowed the EAU to post short news items, share links and news with its followers, and report on-the-go. For instance, Twitter was used to promote Urology Week (12-16 September), encouraging participants to share their progress. Twitter can complement the regular content on Uroweb.org, but its unique qualities also allow for more novel uses.

At the EULIS Meeting, extracts from interviews were posted online within minutes, as were reports from the lecture theatres. That way, news can reach followers as it happens. All posts were tagged with “#eulis11” to categorise them and make them easy to find. The EAU is currently looking into further uses of Twitter for its communications.

If you’re interested in staying informed, you can “follow” the EAU’s channel, uroweb, thereby subscribing to the newsfeed. This will provide you with the most up-to-the-minute EAU-related news.
