Shape the future of urological science as Managing Editor at European Urology
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented fulltime Managing Editor to oversee and manage topical collections within our urology journal portfolio.
This role is pivotal in enhancing the quality and impact of our commissioned content, ensuring that each collection meets the highest standards of editorial excellence.
European Urology is the flagship journal of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and one of the most impactful journals in clinical medicine. With a commitment to excellence, innovation, and scientific rigor, we publish world-class research that shapes clinical practice in urology globally.
Key responsibilities
- Project Management: Lead the end-to-end management of urology collections, coordinating with commissioning editors, guest editors, and authors to ensure timely and high-quality publication.
- Coordinate Editorial Workflows: Liaise with guest editors, authors, peer reviewers, and production teams to solicit papers and full themed issues, ensure high-quality, timely publication.
- Editorial Oversight: Monitor the peer-review process, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and editorial guidelines and maintain clear communication with authors.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison between internal teams (marketing, production, editorial) and external contributors to facilitate seamless communication and workflow.
- Uphold Editorial Integrity: Ensure all content meets ethical and scientific standards, in line with journal policies and best practices.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and report on collection metrics, including submission rates, turnaround times, and publication outcomes, to inform strategic decisions.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to the development and refinement of workflows and best practices to enhance efficiency and quality across the urology portfolio – this aspect entails close collaboration with the publisher and respective journal managers.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree minimum in e.g. Communication, Journalism or Literature or a PhD or MD.
- Experience: 5-8 Years relevant and proven work experience in academic publishing, particularly within medical or scientific journals.
- Skills: Strong project management abilities. Excellent communication skills and writing and speaking skills in English. A service-oriented and details-oriented approach. Impeccable time management skills.
- Attributes: Ability to work collaboratively across teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to a dynamic publishing environment. Happy to travel abroad a few times a year.
