Congress in numbers: more international than ever

Thu, 5 Apr 2012

The 27th Annual EAU Congress, which took place in Paris earlier this year enjoyed a great attendance and participation. The congress is becoming a true international forum, with participants from 118 countries joining us at the Palais des Congrès. That’s an additional 30 countries compared to last year. German delegates traditionally topped the attendance list, followed by participants from France, UK, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, USA and Belgium.

In total, the congress was attended by12,989 participants, of whom 9,834 are urologists, urologists in training and affiliated professionals. Almost 15,000 visitors followed the congress online. The EAU exhibition was just as vibrant, with 2400 exhibiting participants presenting latest developments and showcasing technology.

Some of the most interesting insights came from the poll, during which we asked the delegates to share their impressions of the congress. With a 34.6% response rate, the results are inspiring. The Scientific Congress Office of the EAU was pleased to see some of the vital numbers going up – more delegates rated the quality of this year’s scientific content as “high” and “very high” compared to last year (79% and 84% respectively). Similar results were seen in questions on the availability and access to information on new scientific research, new drugs and equipment.

It was also insightful to see that the delegates are spending a lot of time online through their mobile devices and are actively using the applications developed for the congress. These insights help the EAU to reduce costs, be more environmentally friendly and more oriented towards digital technology. For example, 38% of all respondents accessed the scientific programme exclusively through the Congress App, and another 20% used both – the app and the programme book. We expect this trend to be even more pronounced in the future.

We thank the participants for their attendance and contribution to the congress – and hope to see you all in Milan next year!
