The European School of Urology

The European School of Urology (ESU) offers resources and programmes for optimal learning in urology for doctors at any stage of their urological careers, making the ESU a premier educational resource for the profession worldwide.

ESU activities

The ESU aims to stimulate, coordinate and organise all postgraduate teaching and education activities of the EAU at the highest level possible. Therefore, all teaching activities organised by the ESU are open to constant evaluation.

Each participant is requested to comment and rate the course they have attended – not only the content of the teaching materials but also the teachers. This feedback will guarantee that the ESU curriculum will remain completely up-to-date and is presented in a way considered most appropriate by the participants themselves.

The success of all ESU teaching activities relies greatly on the assistance of the ESU faculty, comprising 150 opinion leaders in the various urological fields. These faculty members offer their time and expertise to all teaching activities free of charge. We are very grateful to be able to call on the expertise and involvement of top experts in the various urological sub-specialties.

Apply for ESU activities

Are you interested in adding an ESU activity or live surgery to your programme? We offer several options for national societies to include ESU teaching activities in their meeting.

ESU courses at National Urological Societies Meetings

The ESU often organise courses taking place at meetings of National Societies. These meetings are organised separately from the Annual EAU Congress. Are you a national society and interested in adding an ESU course to your programme, please contact the European School of Urology to apply.

E-BLUS

The hands-on training (HOT) programme has always been an integral part of the ESU educational programme in a joint effort with the EAU Sections. However, it is also possible to organise your own training in Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills (E-BLUS) in close collaboration with the ESU. Please contact the European School of Urology to apply.

Live Surgery Endorsement

Faced with a keenness to preserve live surgery events, and in the light of the anxiety about them, the EAU Executive Board established an ‘Ethics of Live Surgery Panel’ charged with producing a policy on live surgery for the association. This policy has now been established, and will be monitored by a new ‘EAU Live Surgery Committee’ (LSC).

The benefits of this new policy are numerous. The patient’s safety will be paramount, the organising centre will have a clear framework within which to plan and execute meetings and the LSC will monitor and audit these events. All live surgery events at any EAU congress or meeting will have to meet these requirements. Read the Live Surgery Endorsement Guide and learn more on how to apply for endorsement.

Live Surgery

In response to the continued interest in live surgery events and the concerns surrounding them, the EAU Executive Board established an 'Ethics of Live Surgery Panel' to develop a policy on live surgery within the association. This policy is now in place and is overseen by the EAU Live Surgery Committee (LSC).

The Live Surgery Guide outlines best practices to ensure that patient safety remains the highest priority. It provides a clear and structured framework for planning and conducting live surgery sessions, and organizing centres are strongly encouraged to follow these recommendations. The LSC continues to monitor and support the ethical and professional standards of live surgery activities at EAU meetings.

ESU Committees

The success of all ESU teaching activities relies greatly on the assistance of the ESU faculty, comprising 150 opinion leaders in the various urological fields. These faculty members donate their time and expertise to all teaching activities free of charge. We are very grateful to be able to call on the expertise and involvement of top experts in the various urological sub-specialties.
