11th Central European Meeting: Prostate Conditions
Prostate conditions are a prominent topic at the upcoming 11th CEM. One of the three plenary sessions is devoted to the topic, as are both panel discussions. Prof. Viorel Bucuras, of the local University Hospital will be chairing the meeting, which takes place 28-29 October in Timisoara, Romania. When the submissions for abstracts closed on July 1st, the meeting had attracted 226 abstracts from 20 countries.Beside prostate conditions, other topics include state of the art lectures on the management of penile cancer and on paediatric urology, specifically on enuresis. The second and third plenary session cover upper tract urolithiasis and the chasing of lymphnodes in cancer surgery, respectively.
Regional meetings typically feature many participants from the region, and this year’s CEM is no exception. Speakers and chairs hail from Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Austria and Poland. They are supported by prominent colleagues from The Netherlands and Belgium, Profs. Jean De La Rosette and Hein Van Poppel. The CEM gives the region’s urologists a chance to get to know each other, and practice presenting in English in an international setting. This can serve as a run-up to presenting at the Annual EAU Congress.
Romania is hosting the CEM for the second time in the event’s ten-year history, after Bucharest hosted in 2004. Highlighting Timisoara’s qualities as a host city, Prof. Bucuras mentions its status as Romania’s second city, in the Western part of the country, right in the middle of a culturally and ethnically diverse region. The CEM will be held at the city’s new CCIAT Regional Business Centre.
