5th EMUC to examine personalised therapies for urological cancers

Fri, 14 Jun 2013

Developments in personalised therapies for cancers and how these can be used and further refined in the treatment of urological cancers will be one of the key topics in the 5th European Multidisciplinary Meeting on Urological Cancers (EMUC) to be held in Marseille, France from November 15 to17, 2013.

The fifth in the series of specialists meetings, the EMUC in Marseille will be the first to be held outside Barcelona, Spain, since the conference was introduced in 2007. Starting this year, the meeting, jointly organised by the European Association of Urology (EAU), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO), will be held annually for urological cancer specialists to benefit from the synergies among various medical disciplines.

“Closer collaboration among experts in urology, oncology, radiology and related disciplines, and identifying the areas where we can effectively pool our efforts and provide optimal care to uro-oncology patients, remain as the frontline goal of this conference,” organisers said.

Since 2007 the meeting has steadily attracted the attendance and support of experts, academe-based researchers and other medical professionals involve in the treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder, penile and testis cancers.

Through case presentations regularly punctuated with interactive voting and discussions among the invited panellists, speakers and audience, the three-day will attempt to identify how recent gains in medical, surgical and radiological therapies can be properly used and standardised whilst taking into account the challenge of personalised medical approaches.

New insights in disease diagnosis, management and prevention of complications will also be addressed during plenary sessions where experts from and outside Europe will present the latest updates. Emerging prospects will also be highlighted through oral presentations and the viewing of submitted abstracts and posters.

Participants interested to present the latest findings from on-going and recently concluded studies are invited to submit by 8 July 2013. Abstracts can only be submitted through the online abstract submission system, and authors of selected abstracts will be notified by email in August 2013.
