Announcement: Contribute to EU policy on the safety of meshes
The EAU is taking a bigger role in keeping urological topics on the public agenda. We engage and advise the European Commission and Members of the European Parliament in key areas of interest, raising the profile of urology at the European level. By actively participating in negotiations and discussion on health matters we try to influence policy. And now you can contribute as well.
The European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) started a working group to write a Scientific Opinion for the European Commission on the safety of meshes in urogynecological surgery. The European Commission will use the Scientific Opinion as a scientific basis to discuss the issue of surgical meshes at the Standing Committees on medical devices. Professor Christopher Chapple was selected by the European Commission to provide this Scientific Committee with sound scientific advice on this emerging issue.
We invite you to provide us with your professional view on this matter in order to improve the scientific basis of the Opinion. The Opinion is open for public consultation until 19 July 2015 and can be reviewed on the website of the European Commission.
We would be grateful if you could send us a copy of your professional recommendations on the Opinion via michelle.battye@uroweb.org. This way we can represent you as an organisation and make sure that the importance of urological care is underlined to a broader audience.
With kindest regards,On behalf of the Executive Committee of the EAU
Prof. Chris ChappleEAU Secretary General
