Announcement: Dr. Michiel Sedelaar appointed Chair of EAU Young Urologists Office

Mon, 3 Jun 2013

The Young Urologists Office can welcome a new chair, Dr. Michiel Sedelaar. The YUO is a body that represents the specific educational and training needs of urology residents and young urologists who are starting their career. Dr. Sedelaar is a uro-oncologist, based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

The EAU Young Urologists Office was formed in 2010 to address the needs of urology residents, and urologists under the age of forty. As they are at the beginning of their career, young urologists’ needs are unique, and focused on training, education and careers guidance. The YUO board features representatives from major European urology residents’ organisations, the ESRU, as well as young urologists from different countries.

The Young Academic Urologists Working Party is a working group that falls under the YUO and it focuses on promoting and supporting academic careers of young urologists. Dr. Sedelaar is currently Chair of the Young Academic Urologists Working Party, but is to step down to take this new position.

Dr. Sedelaar received his MD at the medical faculty of Leiden University (NL) in 1998 followed by his PhD at the urology department of Radboud University in Nijmegen (NL) in 2001. His dissertation concerned contrast ultrasonography in the detection and follow-up of prostate cancer. He has been a board-certified Urologist at Radboud University since 2007, after residencies in various locations.

Dr. Sedelaar has been involved with the EAU since 2003, representing the EAU on the ESRU board, and hence ex-officio as resident board member of the European Urology Scholarship Programme, and sitting on the board of the YUO from its inception onward. From 2011, Sedelaar was head of the Young Academic Urologists Working Party.
