Innovative research from Czech Republic and Romania dominated the best poster presentations at the 17th Central European Meeting (CEM17) with studies by Czech urologists collecting four of the six best poster prizes.

In the Young Urologist Competition, Hungarian D.P. Sarlós bested seven other candidates to bagged the coveted first prize. His winning presentation involved the development and use of an original laparoscopic training model using silicon materials.

“There were many submissions from the Czech Republic and Romania and these were also reflected in the final selections by the jury for the best poster presentations,” said Prof. Michiel Sedelaar (NL) who led the award ceremonies together with CEM17 organisers Profs. Marko Babjuk and Milan Hora during the closing session of the meeting.

The jury members cited the fresh insights, originality and depth of presentation of the winners. Both Babjuk and Hora also noted the excellent quality of many presentations. A total of 161 abstracts were presented in 10 poster sessions held during the two-day meeting.

Romania collected two prizes, a first prize in oncology and a second place in non-oncology, with the rest going to Czech Republic.
