ECCO re-elects Van Poppel as Board Director
The European CanCer Organisation (ECCO), an umbrella, non-profit organisation with members across various medical disciplines, has re-elected Prof. Hein Van Poppel for another term as director on its board to represent the European Association of Urology (EAU). ECCO is the only governing body that unites all associations, societies, associations of medical specialists, patients and nurses to influence EU institutions about oncopolicy, multidisciplinarity and quality of care.
Together with 11 other directors representing various professional organisations based in Europe, Van Poppel is tasked to support the ECCO’s core mission to “uphold the right of all European cancer patients to the best possible treatment and care.” The ECCO also works to coordinate and look into the initiatives and activities done by professional medical organisations to boost cancer treatment at the European level.
“We are very happy to have the opportunity to work with you again on the development of ECCO and its activities,” said ECCO President Peter Naredi in a personal message congratulating Van Poppel on his re-election.
Van Poppel, current EAU Adjunct Secretary General for Education, not only fulfils the role of liaison officer for the EAU and other affiliate organisations but also participates in ECCO’s strategic planning and collaborates with the other board members in developing the ECCO’s position on various healthcare and policy issues.
Prof. Francesco Montorsi, EAU Adjunct Secretary General for Science, is Van Poppel’s assigned delegate in the board and will also act as member of the ECCO Scientific and Society Liaison Committee.
