Key urology updates, advances and prospects in Milan congress

Thu, 28 Jun 2012

Careful preparations are underway for the Scientific Programme of the 28th Annual EAU Congress to be held from 15 to 19 March 2013 in Milan, Italy, and organisers are keen to deliver the best meeting presentations, key updates and forward-looking approaches in international urology.

This year, the preparations are handled by a new team and to ensure the quality of scientific content, organisers are harnessing resources and talent from various countries.

“The biggest challenge is to have a programme that is interesting for all participants coming from within and outside Europe, for young and experienced urologists and even for nonurologists,” said Prof. Arnulf Stenzl, chairman of the Scientific Congress Office, and professor at the University Hospital of Tübingen, Germany.

Recently appointed as head of the Scientific Congress Office, Stenzl said the main challenge is to present an excellent scientific programme that addresses the interests of urologists and specialists, while at the same time providing a comprehensive range of topics and issues that will respond to the educational and professional needsof medical professionals.

“Identifying the relevance and presenting future-oriented topics with top-notch speakers as resource persons are among our goals. Another key task is to deliver on the expectations of participants, enabling them to bring back home clear messages or learning points that will aid clinical decision-making or help them in their daily practice,” he added.

With the rapid changes in treatment strategies for many urological diseases and the accompanying development in technology and medical science, urological professionals are provided state-of-the art updates ranging from uro-oncology, paediatric and reconstructive urology to andrology and female urology, to name a few specialties.

The programme will include plenary, thematic, abstract and sponsored sessions, aside from the Section Meetings, Urology Beyond Europe sessions and European School of Urology (ESU) courses. Stenzl said the Scientific Congress Office has the responsibility to ensure that quality is delivered. New members were appointed by the EAU Board, and joining this year to boost the work of the 16-member Scientific Congress Office are nine new members, namely: C. Bangma (NL), F. Burkhard (CH), Z. Culig (AT), D. De Ridder (BE), M. De Santis (AT),W. Feitz (NL) and J. Sönksen (DK).
