MOGUC: the ESU Medical Oncology Course in Marseille
The upcoming 5th European Multidisciplinary Meeting on Urological Cancers (EMUC) is preceded by a special day-long ESU course on genitourinary cancer. The course is chaired by Profs. Palou and Van Poppel and features faculty from urological and oncological fields.
The ESU Medical Oncology course on Genitourinary Cancer (MOGUC) will take place on 14 November in Marseille, France, the day before the EMUC starts at the same venue. The course requires a separate registration, but a discount is available for people who attend both events. The MOGUC is accredited by the European Board of Urology within EU-ACME for 6 credits.
Prof. Hein Van Poppel, Executive Member of the EAU for Education and co-chair of the MOGUC explains the importance of the course for urologists: “Urologists must realise that treatment goes beyond surgery. Much of the cancer treatment in Europe is done by medical oncologists, and urologists must be familiarised with new procedures and treatments. That way, they can better inform their patients and more effectively refer them for certain treatments.”
The course will cover kidney, prostate, testis and bladder cancers, as well as bone therapy. Case discussions and a pre- and post-knowledge test are tools for participants to gain critical insights and to measure the knowledge they gained over the course of the day.
Van Poppel: “Issues like dosage, toxicity and side-effects of new treatments are all topics that urologists need to be informed about, so that they can make the best possible decisions for their patients. Not only will urologists benefit from this specialised course, we also hope to welcome medical oncologists.”
This is reflected in the faculty, which includes both urological and oncological experts.
The MOGUC can be registered for until the course begins. EMUC has an early fee discount until September 30th. For the complete programme of the MOGUC, please visit the EMUC website.
