Paris Welcomes the 27th Annual EAU Congress

Thu, 8 Sep 2011

Come February, the EAU Annual Congress will return to Paris for the third time in its history. Known as the “City of Light”, the French capital has long been a global centre. Its multiculturalism, Belle Epoque splendour and historical significance give the city its deserved reputation as a cultural hub in the Western world. In the 21st century, the city and suburbs’ twelve million inhabitants make Paris one of the largest and diverse conurbations in Europe. The Congress will take place at the Palais des Congrès, an extensive and prestigious congress centre a mere stone’s throw from the famous Arc de Triomphe. The Arc stands at the centre of the city’s “historical axis”, a cluster of the city’s more memorable attractions. The axis begins in the West with the 1990-built Grande Arche in the modern business district of La Défense. It also encompasses the famous Champs-Élysées. For a long time, this shopping street was the most expensive piece of real estate in Europe. The Historical axis ends with the Louvre in the East.

As a centre for fashion and design, Paris has much to offer shoppers. The Champs-Élysées and the surrounding streets in the 8th district are home the most exclusive brands, whereas more regular department stores can be found on the Boulevard Haussman. Paris also has a justified reputation as the city for food-lovers. French cuisine is a global phenomenon, setting the standard for all Western cuisine. From cafés, bistros, and brasseries to exclusive restaurants, the passion and professionalism of the city’s chefs means gastronomic enjoyment can be had at any budget.

Early registration for the congress is now open, and you can register at a special rate on the congress website. You can also still submit abstracts for inclusion of the scientific programme, the deadline is 1 October 2011.

Paris is an ideal city to host the Annual EAU Congress: its modern infrastructure, wealth of public transport and accommodation make it ideal for the large number of visitors that the Congress attracts. We look forward to seeing you in Paris!
