Update on reconstructive urology for Serbian urologists
Serbian urologists recenty participated in a comprehensive, full-day course on reconstructive urology that tackled innovative surgical techniques, challenging cases, diagnosis and treatment strategies in urethral trauma, female urethra damage and urogenital fistulae, among other topics.
Held on April 18 in Belgrade during the last day of the 1st Congress of the Serbian Association of Urology, the course is part of the continuing efforts of the EAU Education Office to extend training and educational support to national urological associations across Europe.
Organised with the European School of Urology (ESU), the day-long course was well-attended with participants interacting closely with the ESU faculty.
“The programme was comprehensive, diverse and interactive. The ESU faculty gave remarkable presentations in robotic surgery and reconstructive urology and conveyed clear insights and tips,” said Assoc. Prof. Dragoslav Basic of the Serbian Urological Association.
“The discussions were not only very constructive and educational, but we saw the participation of almost all the Serbian urologists, “ Basic noted as he thanked the EAU and the ESU for successfully organising the course.
Chaired by Assoc. Prof. George Kasyan (RU) with Prof. Massimo Lazzeri (IT) and Dr. Nicolomaria Buffi (IT) as faculty members, the course presented not only lectures but also case discussions. Issues on functional outcomes, surgical techniques, assessment of tissue damage, managing complications and trouble-shooting strategies were among the topics taken up.
The association thanked EAU Secretary General Prof. Chris Chapple for extending the EAU’s full support, which the organisers considered as vital in sustaining quality training in urology. They also emphasised that sharing knowledge among European urology experts is of mutual benefit since it directly contributes to the goal of achieving optimal patient care.
“The EAU’s support is crucial for the Congress, not only for our training goals but also for the profiling of our urological society as part of the European urological family,” according to Basic.
