Mon, 31 Oct 2011

Researchers from Poland dominated the EAU 11th Central European Meeting (CEM) held over the weekend in Timisoara, Romania. Innovative studies on prostate and kidney cancers delivered three of the six prizes annually granted by sponsors Richard Wolf and Karl Storz."The jury and selection committee had a difficult time selecting the final winners, and we had discussions but finally we had to select the six winners. I am glad to see that through the years we have witnessed a tremendous improvement in quality not only of the research, but also of the presentations and how the participants defended their findings during the final abstract presentations,” said Regional Office Chairman Prof. Michael Marberger.

Presenting the awards together with Prof. Viorel Bucuras, chairman of the local organising committee, both Marberger and Bucuras noted the high quality of abstract submissions this year. Host country Romania and Poland were also the top abstract submitters this year accounting for 52 and 51 abstracts, respectively, out of the 176 accepted abstracts. Czech Republic came third with 22 accepted abstracts.

First prize winner for Karl Storz were J. Wilkosz and colleagues from Poland for their study on differential expression of O-GlcNAc transferase in prostate neoplasms, while T.
