E-course: Neuropathic pain in urology
This e-course by the European School of Urology and the EAU Patient Office will provide healthcare professionals (HCPs) with a practical understanding of neuropathic pain in urological conditions, including its recognition, diagnosis and treatment, multidisciplinary management, and the importance of patient-centred shared decision-making.
Neuropathic pain in urology refers to pain that arises from damage to or dysfunction of the nerves supplying the urinary tract, pelvic organs, or genital region. Unlike pain caused by inflammation, infection, or tissue injury, neuropathic pain results from abnormal nerve signalling. It is often chronic and can be difficult to diagnose and treat.

By the end of the e-course, HCPs should be able to:
- Differentiate neuropathic pain from other pain mechanisms in patients with urological conditions.
- Recognise "red flags" and clinical characteristics suggestive of neuropathic pain.
- Understand the evidence supporting current diagnostic tools and treatment strategies.
- Appreciate the importance of multidisciplinary management, including pain specialists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and specialist nurses.
- Incorporate patient-reported outcomes and shared decision-making into clinical practice.
