Consensus project: Optimising RLT patient referral pathways for PCa

The EAU is pleased to share details of the newly launched ‘Consensus Project on Optimising Radioligand Therapy (RLT) Patient Referral Pathways for Prostate Cancer’, an important European initiative led by the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM).

This collaborative effort brings together six leading European medical societies, including the EAU, European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), and European Society of Radiology (ESR), alongside patient representatives from Europa Uomo. Together, we aim to define efficient, and equitable referral pathways for RLT - an innovative precision oncology approach that integrates molecular diagnostics with targeted treatment.

Although RLT has become an established treatment option for advanced prostate cancer, referral pathways and care coordination across Europe have not yet fully evolved to support its optimal use. This disparity can affect timely access to treatment, resource utilisation, and ultimately patient outcomes. In line with the objectives of the EU Cancer Mission, this project focuses on improving system-level organisation and referral processes rather than evaluating clinical efficacy.

The importance of strong multidisciplinary collaboration in addressing these challenges and improving patient access to innovative therapies has been recognised by all those involved in this initiative. The collective expertise and commitment of all participating societies and patient advocates are essential to advancing more integrated, equitable, and patient-centred prostate cancer care across Europe.

Further updates on the outcomes of the project will be shared in the coming months. For more information, please contact the project leader at EANM by email
