Davos 2011: at the peak of science

Wed, 5 Jan 2011

On 5-9 February 2011, the European School of Urology will once again hold one of the world’s most innovative and fascinating urological meetings – The European Urology Forum: Challenge the Experts. Traditionally held in Davos, Switzerland, the format stimulates open discussion, dialogue, out-of-the-box thinking, debates and exchange of opinions between top-class experts in the field.

The forum has long established itself as a pinnacle of leading edge scientific thought – a compact and intensive overview of the budding trends in urology. It has become a platform which sparks new discussions and points to new directions in the field.

“We always do our best to offer a stimulating combination of established science and daring, innovative ideas,” said Prof. C. Chapple, EAU Executive Member Education. “This forum is the one place where we keep our eyes open for both - promising trends and the academic talent.”

The European Urology Forum is a unique meeting, which features a series of “Challenge the Experts” sessions. During these sessions, young urology experts are challenged by the faculty regarding their presentations, the depth of their knowledge as well as the ability to defend their position in a convincing and resourceful manner.

“This “confrontational” format usually enables us to unveil the tremendous talent, knowledge and skills of the challenger and take a look at the subject matter with a magnifying glass – discuss and approach it very thoroughly. There is rarely an opportunity to do that at other meetings,” said Prof. H. Van Poppel, who chairs the European School of Urology. “These sessions are always highly enjoyable.”

During the upcoming meeting the faculty will be challenging the following experts: Dr. Roman Sosnowski, Poland; Dr. Bernardo Rocco, Italy; Dr. George Kasyan, Russia; Dr. James Catto, UK; and Dr. Laurent Salomon, France. Each will make three presentations, with the range of subjects touching upon such issues as personalised approach to pelvic floor disorders, quality of life after various procedures, PSA screening and more.

The scientific programme of the meeting accommodates for a wide range of interests, and along with “Challenge the Experts” sessions, the audience will hear lectures on trends in female and reconstructive urology, andrology, laparoscopy in urology, kidney and bladder cancer as well as paediatric urology amongst others. The world’s leading experts will be presenting at the meeting, including Profs. F. Mirone, C-C. Abbou, L. Klotz , P. Abrams, and others. The forum will for the first time also include the expert meeting of the EAU Section of Uro-Technology (ESUT), promising an interesting discussion on trends and challenges in this field.

Online registration for the European Urology Forum: Challenge the Experts closes on 1 February 2011.
