Dr. Alberto Briganti joins EAU Scientific Congress Office
Dr. Briganti, based at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University Hospital, Milan (IT) was recently invited to join the EAU Scientific Congress Office. The office, chaired by Prof. Freddie Hamdy (UK) determines the scientific programme for the annual EAU Congress.“When I first got the news that I was to be included in the Congress Office, I was extremely honoured! The EAU is our society, and I look forward to getting involved in organising the annual meeting,” Dr. Briganti explains. Speaking of the Office’s goals, he stresses that “the meeting has become an important part of the educational process for any European urologist. I hope to contribute to maintaining a high level of contributions, covering a wide range of urological topics.”
Dr. Briganti is specialised in urological oncology, and will be bringing his expertise to the Congress Office. His department’s research was awarded with the first ESUI Vision Award at the 26th Annual EAU Meeting in Vienna last March. The proposal concerned the efficacy of CT scans in predicting nodal metastasis in prostate cancer. Briganti: “I was very happy that that particular project was awarded, I hadn’t expected it!”
When asked whether the award put him and his department on the map for the Scientific Congress Office, Dr. Briganti postulated that it had more to do with his department’s hard work in clinical research, multi-institutional studies and the application of sound methodology.
Commenting on the role of the EAU in general, he reiterated the role of the association as an organisation for urologists by urologists: “It’s our society, and it is gaining importance in the urological community. I hope that many other young physicians will get involved in the EAU’s activities. The younger generation of urologists represents the future, and they need the guidance of the senior urologists. Whenever there’s a good mixture between seniors and young people, the brightest ideas and research will follow.”
