ERUS14: Young urologists most likely to achieve high marks in Robotic Hands-on Training Course

Thu, 11 Sep 2014

Young participants have an increased chance of scoring high marks in hands-on robotic training. This is one of several conclusions that can be drawn from the results of last year’s hands-on training sessions. The full report will be presented at next week’s EAU Robotic Urology Section (ERUS) Meeting in Amsterdam.

“Data from the robotic hands-on training has shown that young participants in particular achieved higher exercise results,” said Dr. Henk van der Poel, member of the ERUS board and Meeting Chairman of ERUS 2014.

“Although prior robotic experience was an indicator for better exercise scores, prior laparoscopic surgical experience and bed-side assistance during robotic procedures were both not predictive of exercise scores.” All results from last year’s HOT robotic trainings will be presented during the special Junior ERUS meeting that will take place on the first day of ERUS 2014.

Hands-on training will take place throughout the meeting, on both 18 and 19 September. Different procedures can be practiced with expert tutors, including sessions on the dVsimulator, drylab, hydra trainer and dVtrainer. Attendees can still sign up for hands-on training on-site.

The bulk of the ERUS 2014 scientific programme will consist of live surgery demonstrations, as well as case discussions and state-of-the-art lectures. Special attention will also be given to young urologists in the aforementioned YAU-Junior ERUS programme on September 17th. That day will also see a day-long course aimed at nurses, co-organised with the European Association of Urology Nurses. A variety of ESU courses are also available on Wednesday the 17th.

For more information, including the complete scientific programme, please visit the meeting website. On-site registration is still possible!
