Memoriam

Mr. Richard Turner-Warwick, the father of reconstructive urology and Willy Gregoir Medal winner, passed away on Sunday 20 September 2020 at the age of 95. Turner-Warwick was a highly esteemed colleague, a giant within urology both in the UK and worldwide, whose inventions and clinical contributions have had a major impact on influencing the treatment and diagnosis of urological diseases.

His continuous striving for innovation earned Turner-Warwick numerous awards throughout his career. Notably, he received the prestigious EAU Willy Gregoir Medal in 2005 for his significant contribution to the development of the urological specialty in Europe. Twelve years later, at EAU17 in London, he was granted the EAU Innovators In Urology Award for his huge influence on functional reconstructive urological surgery. His significant achievements include major contributions to reconstructive urology, such as the development of urodynamics and a number of surgical instruments and techniques. Not for nothing was he considered by many as the father of reconstructive urology.

Turner-Warwick has left behind a massive legacy which many of those working in reconstructive urology benefit from every single day.

A full obituary will be published in the next edition of European Urology Today.
