Of note, he was a member of the founding group of the Young Academic Urologists (YAU) and of the YAU RCC Working Group. He has also served for many years on the EAU RCC Guidelines Panel and is a member of the ESU Faculty. Since 2017, he has been an active board member of the EAU Section of Oncological Urology.

Now, as Chair, Prof. Volpe aims to build on the section’s strong foundation and lead its future development, with the goal to ensure that the section remains at the forefront of urological oncology.

A vision for growth – research, education and practice

Prof. Volpe: “New growth and development objectives for the EAU Section of Oncological Urology can be achieved through improvements to the annual UROonco meeting, the creation of long-term educational projects and fellowships in GU Oncology, an increasing support to high-quality research in the field, editorial projects, and the strengthening of collaborations with the other EAU sections.”

“Firstly, creating dedicated core groups within the section for each GU cancer tumour type will sharpen the focus in the different clinical fields.”

Prof. Volpe also plans to improve the multidisciplinary essence of the section by having more contributions from other medical experts such as medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and interventional radiologists, while still maintaining the section’s strong urological identity.  Prof. Volpe is focused on expanding training opportunities for urologists all over Europe with new training programmes and scholarships by working closely with the European Urological Scholarship Programme (EUSP).

Also, on Prof. Volpe’s agenda is to improve the section’s collaboration with the EAU Guidelines Office in order to promote the dissemination and use of guidelines, as well as implement indicators of adherence to clinical practice oncological guidelines.  He would like to strengthen the collaboration with other EAU sections, such as the EAU Section of Urological Research and the EAU Robotic Urology Section. Lastly, under his leadership, prof. Volpe would like to improve the scientific output of the EAU Section of Oncological Urology through projects designed in conjunction with European Urology and the sister journals.
