What is 'second victim phenomenon'?
The second victim phenomenon refers to the psychological distress that healthcare professionals may experience after being involved in an unexpected adverse event, a major complication, or a medical error. Affected individuals often develop stress reactions such as feelings of guilt, anxiety, or self-doubt, which can impact both their professional performance and personal well-being. This phenomenon may affect colleagues working in hospitals as well as those in private practice.
The survey was initiated by ERUS and EAU YUO, but it is explicitly intended for all urologists.
Goal
Our goal is to obtain a realistic picture of the experiences and needs within our specialty. The findings will help guide the development of support programs and further strengthen the culture of safety in urology.
About the survey
The questionnaire consists of several thematic sections with approximately 23 main questions and additional sub-questions.
