YAU Working Group Infections in Urology

The mission of the YAU Urological Infections Working Group is to advance the understanding and management of infectious complications in urology, with a particular focus on antimicrobial stewardship, emerging resistance patterns, and optimisation of clinical practices.

Our aim

The group aims to generate robust clinical evidence and to contribute to the development of evidence-based recommendations.

A distinctive feature of the group is its strong transdisciplinary approach. Physicians from other specialties (including infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, gynaecologists, geriatricians, and emergency physicians, etc) are actively encouraged to contribute, in order to advance a field where high-quality evidence remains limited.

Collaborations

The YAU Urological Infections Working Group is actively involved in collaborative research projects and contributes to the scientific community through peer-reviewed publications and international initiatives. The group also works in close collaboration with several EAU bodies, including the EAU Guidelines Office (Urological Infections Panel), the EAU Section of Infections in Urology (ESIU), and the European School of Urology (ESU).

Key contemporary projects of the team

  • Development of educational initiatives and webinars on urological infections
  • Systematic reviews addressing key unmet needs in the field
  • Design and implementation of prospective multicentre studies
  • Development of large international collaborative databases on urological infections
  • Research on antimicrobial stewardship and optimisation of antibiotic use in urology
