For decades, the treatment of PD has remained under considerable debate as distinguishing between active and stable disease will influence conservative treatment and the timing of surgery. In the acute phase of PD, which has a shorter symptom duration, pain during erection, or change in penile deformity, the conservative treatment is primarily focused on pain relief and prevention of disease progression.

Several options have been suggested, including oral pharmacotherapy, traction therapy, intralesional injection therapy, and shockwave therapy. The results of the studies on conservative treatment for PD are often contradictory. This leads to a difficult task in providing recommendations in actual clinical practice.

The experts in the field will provide an overview of the options, explore the limitations, and offer suggestions on when and how to perform the treatment.
