This UROwebinar by the European School of Urology and the EAU Section of Functional Urology will centre on recurrent stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Its management is controversial and there is insufficient literature on the best “rescue” procedure for those women who require retreatment. The lack of evidence informing the optimal management of recurrent SUI is likely due to a focus on evaluating outcomes for primary procedures over the past decade.
With the increasing utilisation of mid-urethral slings to treat SUI patients, there are relatively low numbers of failed procedures, making the feasibility of prospective clinical trials a challenge. Given the lack of quality data on the optimal management of recurrent stress urinary incontinence, most surgeons rely on their own experience.
To choose the best alternative technique for the patient, the surgeon must carefully assess the patient's incontinence and condition. There are many choices; from autologous sling to adjustable synthetic sling to artificial urinary sphincter. All techniques may be valid, depending on the patient and the surgeon's experience, and should be performed in specialised, high-volume centres.
This UROwebinar will review all the treatment choices that can be used in complicated urinary incontinence. An overview of the data in the literature will be made. The experts will provide their insights and experiences on the topic.
