Women in Urology – Dr. Lammers, Dr. Secco and Dr. Cereda discuss imposter syndrome and resilience
In Episode 7, “Imposter syndrome and resilience” of the series “Women in urology: Dare to thrive”, Dr. Silvia Secco (IT), Dr. Rianne Lammers (NL) and Dr. Guido Cereda (IT) share open and personal reflections on imposter syndrome and the many forms it takes throughout a urological career.
They begin by acknowledging how common these feelings are - even among confident, accomplished clinicians - and discuss how new roles, transitions and increased responsibilities can intensify self-doubt.
Drawing on their own experiences, they explore how comparison, perfectionism and fear of inadequacy affect both trainees and senior doctors, often quietly and persistently. The speakers highlight the importance of supportive colleagues, mentorship and honest conversations, emphasising how validation from peers can help break the isolation many feel.
They also discuss practical approaches to building resilience, from reframing negative thoughts to recognising achievements and allowing space for vulnerability. Ultimately, the episode offers a reassuring message: imposter syndrome is widespread, manageable and best overcome together through openness, connection and shared understanding.
