Women in Urology – Dr. Semins and Prof. Somani discuss mentorship and welcoming diversity in urology
In Episode 6, “The mentor perspective: Welcoming diversity” of the series “Women in urology: Dare to thrive”, Dr. Michelle Jo Semins (US) and Prof. Bhaskar Somani (GB) share their insights on how mentorship can shape more inclusive and equitable professional environments.
Drawing on their own experiences as mentor and mentee, they discuss how effective guidance can help overcome systemic barriers and support women in advancing their careers in urology. The conversation highlights the importance of recognising individual strengths, fostering confidence and creating opportunities that empower the next generation.
Both speakers emphasise that mentorship is not only about professional growth but also about personal connection, trust and the shared responsibility to promote diversity across all levels of academia and clinical practice. Together, they offer a thoughtful reflection on how inclusive mentorship can drive real change in the culture of urology.
