Urinary growth of bacteria in an asymptomatic individual is common and corresponds to a commensal colonisation. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are classified as Uncomplicated, Complicated, Recurrent, Catheter-associated, and Urosepsis. Cheat Sheet: Recurrent urinary tract infections and Uncomplicated Pyelonephritis

Recurrent UTIs (rUTIs) are recurrences with a frequency of at least three UTIs per year, or two UTIs in the past six months. rUTIs include both cystitis and pyelonephritis, but repeated pyelonephritis should prompt consideration of a complicated aetiology.
