February 2024 updates on PRAISE-U
PRAISE-U is a European Union Co-funded project to pilot a prostate cancer screening programme across Europe. In partnership with the consortium, PRAISE-U works to encourage early detection and diagnosis of prostate cancer through customised and risk-based screening programmes. The goal is to align protocols and guidelines across Member States and enable the collection and distribution of relevant data to reduce prostate cancer morbidity and mortality rates in Europe.
Health Policy for Prostate Cancer Early Detection in the European Union and the Impact of Opportunistic Screening: PRAISE-U Consortium
As one of PRAISE-U’s deliverables, WP2 has conducted a systematic review of scientific literature. The review provides a detailed picture of PCa-screening policies and guidelines that are currently in place in different European countries versus what is actually happening in clinical practice in terms of opportunistic screening for PCa. It concludes that the current policies are not fit for purpose, and calls for updated recommendations.

This narrative review of scientific literature outlines the controversies surrounding prostate cancer (PCa) screening and discusses the implications for bridging the gap from landmark randomized control trials to modern population-based pilot programs.
