The ESFFU works in the field of female and functional urology, covering all relevant aspects – from promoting research to encouraging best practices across European countries. The field of functional and female urology is unique: we often deal with diseases that are chronic, difficult to pinpoint, and that must be considered in the context of adjacent conditions. This is why we work within a broad, multidisciplinary cooperation, which involves neurology, gynecology, psychology and other specialties.
Our main objective is to provide state-of-the-art standards for research, diagnostics and treatment of functional urological problems in neurological and non-neurological patients.
Originally established as the European Society of Neuro-Urology, the ESFFU joined the EAU as a section in 2008. Today, we have a great ambition to become one of EAU’s most driven and dynamic sections which connects experts and young specialists interested in the field of functional urology under one umbrella.
Below is a quick overview of what we do. For more information about our work, our ambitions and challenges, please download the latest ESFFU brochure and on the section blog you will find out more about the ongoing projects, resources and the latest news.
Today, focus on a number of educational and scientific activities with the aim to educate urologists and affiliated medical practitioners about best practices and research breakthroughs in our fast-advancing field. We provide a great forum for knowledge sharing and discussion at the dedicated session during the Annual EAU Congress, and at the recently established stand-alone meeting. In the upcoming years we plan to intensify our activities and create wider awareness among medical students, urologists, general practitioners and affiliated professionals about the opportunities and the progress in the field of functional urology.
The ESFFU structure allows for representation of specialists and enables us accomplish our ambitious goals. The ESFFU is steered by the board of 10 members, which is headed by the chairman. The section also actively works with a number of associate members. The ESFFU faculty consists of well-known European specialists in the fields of neurourology, functional and female urology.
What can we do for you?
Aside from organising meetings dedicated to our subspecialty field, we are very eager to encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience between generations. Access to training in the field of functional urology is not uniform across European countries, and this exchange is extremely vital considering the multidimensional character of our specialty.
How to participate?
If you have expertise in the field of female and functional urology and would like to share it with the rest of the EAU network or if you have comments or suggestions about the work of the ESFFU, don’t hesitate to contact the section. We are always on the lookout for new ideas! If you are an active EAU Member and you would like to contribute actively to the work of the section, we invite you to submit an associate member application.
