For the 2025 Urological Trauma Guidelines, new and relevant evidence has been identified, collated and appraised through a structured assessment of the literature for all sections of the guidelines. Furthermore, throughout the guidelines statements on the use of antibiotics have been adapted to clearly state that use antibiotics should be guided by local antimicrobial stewardship programmes. Key changes include:

  • Adaption and update of the recommendations for management of renal trauma in section 4.1.7.
  • Downgrading the recommendation regarding the use of pre-operative prophylactic stents in section 4.2.6.
  • Removal of the summary of evidence and recommendation to treat complete blunt anterior urethral injuries by immediate urethroplasty, if surgical expertise is available, otherwise perform suprapubic diversion with delayed urethroplasty in section 4.4.4.
  • All treatment algorithms were updated.
